This study explores Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) as a strategic instrument to promote sustainable business growth through a systematic literature review. The increasing global emphasis on environmental responsibility and sustainable development has elevated GHRM from a technical human resource function to a strategic framework that aligns environmental sustainability with organizational goals. Adopting a systematic literature review approach, this study synthesizes findings from 20 peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2013 and 2024 to examine thematic trends, key dimensions, and the practical challenges of GHRM implementation. The review identifies five primary dimensions of GHRM—green recruitment and selection, green training and development, green performance management, green compensation and rewards, and green employee involvement. These dimensions collectively form an integrated system that enhances environmental awareness, encourages pro-environmental behavior, and strengthens the organization’s long-term competitive advantage. The findings further reveal that GHRM contributes significantly to improving organizational, environmental, and economic performance through employee engagement, green leadership, and a supportive organizational culture and climate. However, implementation challenges persist, particularly in developing countries, where financial constraints, limited institutional support, and low environmental awareness hinder consistent adoption of green HR practices. This study concludes that GHRM serves as both a managerial and strategic mechanism for embedding sustainability principles within organizational systems. It provides theoretical insights into the integration of the resource-based view and sustainability paradigms while offering practical guidance for leaders and policymakers seeking to develop environmentally responsible and resilient business organizations.
