Abstract

Global warming and environmental degradation have become major challenges in the development sector, particularly in the construction industry, which accounts for approximately 33% of CO₂ emissions and 40–50% of global energy use. One of the strategic responses to these challenges is the implementation of the green building concept, which emphasizes efficiency in energy and water use, sustainable material cycles, indoor environmental quality, and environmental management throughout the building’s life cycle. In Indonesia, awareness and application of green building principles are still limited, although several pioneering projects have demonstrated their potential benefits. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the green building concept at Grand Natura, Bung Hatta, Mataram, a premium integrated housing development claimed by its developer, PT. Varindo Lombok Inti, to embody a Green Living concept. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive method by combining literature studies and field observations. The assessment framework refers to the six core criteria of the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI), namely: (1) Appropriate Site Development, (2) Energy Efficiency and Refrigerant, (3) Water Conservation, (4) Material Resources and Cycle, (5) Indoor Air Health and Comfort, and (6) Building and Environmental Management. By using this framework, the study compares the developer’s claims with actual conditions and identifies the extent to which Grand Natura aligns with green building standards. The findings are expected to highlight strengths and weaknesses in the application of sustainable design strategies at Grand Natura. Furthermore, the study provides recommendations for improving sustainability performance, particularly in aspects such as water conservation and renewable energy utilization, which are often overlooked in residential projects. This research contributes to the growing discourse on sustainable housing development in Indonesia and underscores the need for more rigorous adoption of green building practices in the residential sector as a mitigation effort against climate change.
